RESUMO

Electroactive hydrogels have garnered extensive interest as a promising approach to myocardial tissue engineering. However, the challenges of spatiotemporal-specific modulation of individual pathological processes and achieving nontoxic bioresorption still remain. Herein, inspired by the entire postinfarct pathological processes, an injectable conductive bioresorbable black phosphorus nanosheets (BPNSs)-loaded hydrogel (BHGD) was developed via reactive oxide species (ROS)-sensitive disulfide-bridge and photomediated cross-linking reaction. Significantly, the chronologically programmed BHGD hydrogel can achieve graded modulation during the inflammatory, proliferative, and maturation phases of myocardial infarction (MI). More details, during early infarction, the BHGD hydrogel can effectively reduce ROS levels in the MI area, inhibit cellular oxidative stress damage, and promote macrophage M2 polarization, creating a favorable environment for damaged myocardium repair. Meanwhile, the ROS-responsive structure can protect BPNSs from degradation and maintain good conductivity under MI microenvironments. Therefore, the BHGD hydrogel possesses tissue-matched modulus and conductivity in the MI area, facilitating cardiomyocyte maturation and electrical signal exchange, compensating for impaired electrical signaling, and promoting vascularization in infarcted areas in the maturation phase. More importantly, all components of the hydrogel degrade into nontoxic substances without adverse effects on vital organs. Overall, the presented BPNS-loaded hydrogel offers an expandable and safe option for clinical treatment of MI.

RESUMO

Semiconductor lasers, characterized by their high efficiency, small size, low weight, rich wavelength options, and direct electrical drive, have found widespread application in many fields, including military defense, medical aesthetics, industrial processing, and aerospace. The mode characteristics of lasers directly affect their output performance, including output power, beam quality, and spectral linewidth. Therefore, semiconductor lasers with high output power and beam quality are at the forefront of international research in semiconductor laser science. The novel parity-time (PT) symmetry mode-control method provides the ability to selectively modulate longitudinal modes to improve the spectral characteristics of lasers. Recently, it has gathered much attention for transverse modulation, enabling the output of fundamental transverse modes and improving the beam quality of lasers. This study begins with the basic principles of PT symmetry and provides a detailed introduction to the technical solutions and recent developments in single-mode semiconductor lasers based on PT symmetry. We categorize the different modulation methods, analyze their structures, and highlight their performance characteristics. Finally, this paper summarizes the research progress in PT-symmetric lasers and provides prospects for future development.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is a serious complication after hepatectomy and a major cause of death. The current criteria for PHLF diagnosis (ISGLS consensus) require laboratory data of elevated INR level and hyperbilirubinemia on or after postoperative day 5. This study aims to propose a new indicator for the early clinical prediction of PHLF. METHODS: The peri-operative arterial lactate concentration level ratios were derived from time points within the 3 days before surgery and within POD1, the patients were divided into two groups: high lactate ratio group (≥ 1) and low lactate ratio group (< 1). We compared the differences in morbidity rates between the two groups. Utilized logistic regression analysis to identify the risk factors associated with PHLF development and ROC curves to compare the predictive value of lactate ratio and other liver function indicators for PHLF. RESULTS: A total of 203 patients were enrolled in the study. Overall morbidity and severe morbidity occurred in 64.5 and 12.8 per cent of patients respectively. 39 patients (19.2%) met the criteria for PHLF, including 15 patients (7.4%) with clinically relevant Post-hepatectomy liver failure (CR-PHLF). With a significantly higher incidence of PHLF observed in the lactate ratio ≥ 1 group compared to the lactate ratio < 1 group (n = 34, 26.8% vs. n = 5, 6.6%, P < 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that a lactate ratio ≥ 1 was an independent predictor for PHLF (OR: 3.239, 95% CI 1.097-9.565, P = 0.033). Additionally, lactate ratio demonstrated good predictive efficacy for PHLF (AUC = 0.792). CONCLUSIONS: Early assessment of peri-operative arterial lactate concentration level ratios may provide experience in early intervention of complications in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, which can reduce the likelihood of PHLF occurrence and improve patient prognosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The intricate interactions between chronic psychological stress and susceptibility to breast cancer have been recognized, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unexplored. Danzhi Xiaoyao Powder (DZXY), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, has found clinical utility in the treatment of breast cancer. Macrophages, as the predominant immune cell population within the tumor microenvironment (TME), play a pivotal role in orchestrating tumor immunosurveillance. Emerging evidence suggests that lipid oxidation accumulation in TME macrophages, plays a critical role in breast cancer development and progression. However, a comprehensive understanding of the pharmacological mechanisms and active components of DZXY related to its clinical application in the treatment of stress-aggravated breast cancer remains elusive. PURPOSE: This study sought to explore the plausible regulatory mechanisms and identify the key active components of DZXY contributing to its therapeutic efficacy in the context of breast cancer. METHODS: Initially, we conducted an investigation into the relationship between the phagocytic capacity of macrophages damaged by psychological stress and phospholipid peroxidation using flow cytometry and LC-MS/MS-based phospholipomics. Subsequently, we evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of DZXY based on the results of the tumor size, tumor weight, the phospholipid peroxidation pathway and phagocytosis of macrophage. Additionally, the target-mediated characterization strategy based on binding of arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX15) to phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein-1 (PEBP1), including molecular docking analysis, microscale thermophoresis (MST) assay, co-immunoprecipitation analysis and activity verification, has been further implemented to reveal the key bio-active components in DZXY. Finally, we evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of isochlorogenic acid C (ICAC) based on the results of tumor size, tumor weight, the phospholipid peroxidation pathway, and macrophage phagocytosis in vivo. RESULTS: The present study demonstrated that phospholipid peroxides, as determined by LC-MS/MS-based phospholipidomics, triggered in macrophages, which in turn compromised their capacity to eliminate tumor cells through phagocytosis. Furthermore, we elucidate the mechanism behind stress-induced PEBP1 to form a complex with ALOX15, thereby mediating membrane phospholipid peroxidation in macrophages. DZXY, demonstrates potent anti-breast cancer therapeutic effects by disrupting the ALOX15/PEBP1 interaction and inhibiting phospholipid peroxidation, ultimately enhancing macrophages' phagocytic capability towards tumor cells. Notably, ICAC emerged as a promising active component in DZXY, which can inhibit the ALOX15/PEBP1 interaction, thereby mitigating phospholipid peroxidation in macrophages. CONCLUSION: Collectively, our findings elucidate stress increases the susceptibility of breast cancer by driving lipid peroxidation of macrophages and suggest the ALOX15/PEBP1 complex as a promising intervention target for DZXY.

RESUMO

ChinaMu is the largest sequence-indexed Mutator (Mu) transposon insertional library in maize (Zea mays). In this study, we made significant improvements to the size and quality of the ChinaMu library. We developed a new Mu-tag isolation method Mu-Tn5-seq (MuT-seq). Compared to the previous method used by ChinaMu, MuT-seq recovered 1/3 more germinal insertions, while requiring only about 1/14 of the sequencing volume and 1/5 of the experimental time. Using MuT-seq, we identified 113,879 germinal insertions from 3,168 Mu-active F1 families. We also assembled a high-quality genome for the Mu-active line Mu-starter, which harbors the initial active MuDR element and was used as the pollen donor for the mutation population. Using the Mu-starter genome, we recovered 33,662 (15.6%) additional germinal insertions in 3,244 (7.4%) genes in the Mu-starter line. The Mu-starter genome also improved the assignment of 117,689 (54.5%) germinal insertions. The newly upgraded ChinaMu dataset currently contains 215,889 high-quality germinal insertions. These insertions cover 32,224 pan-genes in the Mu-starter and B73Ref5 genomes, including 23,006 (80.4%) core genes shared by the two genomes. As a test model, we investigated Mu insertions in the pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) superfamily, discovering insertions for 92% (449/487) of PPR genes in ChinaMu, demonstrating the usefulness of ChinaMu as a functional genomics resource for maize.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Liver fibrosis is a predisposing factor for liver cancer. This study will investigate the predictive role of the Triglyceride-glucose and Gamma-glutamyl transferase index (TyG-GGT) as a non-invasive indicator of advanced liver fibrosis in individuals with obesity or overweight. METHOD: We enrolled patients who underwent metabolic and bariatric surgery as well as intraoperative liver biopsies at Zhejiang provincial people's hospital from August 2020 to March 2023. Clinical characteristics, comorbidities, laboratory data, and pathological variables of patients were collected and analysed. Then, we conducted logistics regression model to compare the performance of the TyG-GGT index with other 4 non-invasive models. RESULTS: A total of 65 patients were included in this study. 43(66.2%) of them were female, with the mean body mass index (BMI) of 39.0 ± 7.3 kg/m2. Meanwhile, 24(36.9%) patients were diagnosed with diabetes. Advanced liver fibrosis were observed in 16.9% of patients, while liver cirrhosis was found in 4.6% of patients. The multivariable logistics regression showed that TyG-GGT was an independent risk factor of advanced liver fibrosis (OR = 6.989, P = 0.049). Additionally, compared to another 4 non-invasive liver fibrosis models (NFS = 0.66, FIB4 = 0.65, METS-IR = 0.68, APRI = 0.65), TyG-GGT exhibits the highest AUC value of 0.75. CONCLUSIONS: More than one-third of patients undergoing metabolic and bariatric surgery are afflicted with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and a significant proportion exhibit advanced fibrosis. TyG-GGT was a potentially reliable predictor for screening individuals with overweight or obesity at high risk of advanced liver fibrosis, thus providing clinical guidance for early intervention in this targeted group.

RESUMO

LiDAR has high accuracy and resolution and is widely used in various fields. In particular, phase-modulated continuous-wave (PhMCW) LiDAR has merits such as low power, high precision, and no need for laser frequency modulation. However, with decreasing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the noise on the signal waveform becomes so severe that the current methods to extract the time-of-flight are no longer feasible. In this paper, a novel method that uses deep neural networks to measure the pulse width is proposed. The effects of distance resolution and SNR on the performance are explored. Recognition accuracy reaches 81.4% at a 0.1 m distance resolution and the SNR is as low as 2. We simulate a scene that contains a vehicle, a tree, a house, and a background located up to 6 m away. The reconstructed point cloud has good fidelity, the object contours are clear, and the features are restored. More precisely, the three distances are 4.73 cm, 6.00 cm, and 7.19 cm, respectively, showing that the performance of the proposed method is excellent. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that employs a neural network to directly process LiDAR signals and to extract their time-of-flight.

RESUMO

Epidural fibrosis (EF), associated with various biological factors, is still a major troublesome clinical problem after laminectomy. In the present study, we initially demonstrate that sensory nerves can attenuate fibrogenic progression in EF animal models via the secretion of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), suggesting a new potential therapeutic target. Further studies showed that CGRP could inhibit the reprograming activation of fibroblasts through PI3K/AKT signal pathway. We subsequently identified metformin (MET), the most widely prescribed medication for obesity-associated type 2 diabetes, as a potent stimulator of sensory neurons to release more CGRP via activating CREB signal way. We copolymerized MET with innovative polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers to develop a metformin-grafted PCL nanoscaffold (METG-PCLN), which could ensure stable long-term drug release and serve as favorable physical barriers. In vivo results demonstrated that local implantation of METG-PCLN could penetrate into dorsal root ganglion cells (DRGs) to promote the CGRP synthesis, thus continuously inhibit the fibroblast activation and EF progress for 8 weeks after laminectomy, significantly better than conventional drug loading method. In conclusion, this study reveals the unprecedented potential of sensory neurons to counteract EF through CGRP signaling and introduces a novel strategy employing METG-PCLN to obstruct EF by fine-tuning sensory nerve-regulated fibrogenesis.

RESUMO

Background: Hepatectomy is the preferred treatment for solitary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) without macrovascular invasion and distant metastasis, but long-term survival remains unsatisfactory in certain patients. We sought to identify whether the grading severity of microscopic vascular invasion (MVI) was associated with recurrence and survival among patients with solitary HCC. Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent hepatectomy for solitary HCC were identified from a multicenter prospectively-collected database. Patients were categorized into three groups according to the MVI grading system proposed by the Liver Cancer Pathology Group of China: M0 (no MVI), M1 (1-5 sites of MVI occurring ≤1.0 cm away from the tumor), and M2 (>5 sites occurring ≤1.0 cm or any site occurring >1 cm away from the tumor). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were compared among the groups. Results: Among 227 patients, 97 (42.7%), 83 (36.6%), and 47 (20.7%) patients had M0, M1, and M2, respectively. Median RFS rates among patients with M0, M1, and M2 were 38.3, 35.1, 11.6 months, respectively, while OS rates were 66.8, 62.3, 30.6 months, respectively (both P<0.001). Multivariate Cox-regression analyses demonstrated that both M1 and M2 were independent risk factors for RFS (hazard ratio 1.20, 95% CI: 1.03-1.89, P=0.040; and hazard ratio 1.67, 95% CI: 1.06-2.64, P=0.027) and OS (hazard ratio 1.28, 95% CI: 1.05-2.07, P=0.035; and hazard ratio 1.97, 95% CI: 1.15-3.38, P=0.013). Conclusions: Grading severity of MVI was independently associated with RFS and OS after hepatectomy for solitary HCC. Enhanced surveillance for recurrence and potentially adjuvant therapy may be considered for patients with MVI, especially individuals with more severe MVI grading (M2).

RESUMO

Primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is the prevailing congenital anomaly of the kidneys and urinary tract, posing a significant risk for pyelonephritis scarring and chronic renal insufficiency in pediatric patients. Nevertheless, the precise genetic etiology of VUR remains enigmatic. In this current investigation, we conducted whole-exome sequencing on a child exhibiting single kidney, devoid of any familial VUR background, along with both biological parents. Two missense variants (NM_019105.8: exon11: c.4111G>A and NM_019105.8: exon2: c.31A>T) in the TNXB gene were identified through whole-exome sequencing of the child. These variants were found to be inherited from the child's parents, with each parent carrying one of the variants. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to assess the impact of these variants on the tenascin XB proteins encoded by them, revealing varying degrees of impairment. Based on our findings, it is suggested that the TNXB compound heterozygous variant, consisting of c.4111G>A and c.31A>T, may be the underlying cause of right renal agenesis and left hydronephrosis in afflicted child. This discovery broadens the genetic range of the TNXB gene and establishes a genetic foundation for disease-specific preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) in prospective pregnancies involving the parents of this afflicted child.

RESUMO

To address the needs of polarized light navigation for accurate position information of feature points in the sky, an accurate solar position detection method based on an all-sky polarization pattern imaging system is proposed. Unlike the traditional spot-based solar position detection method, this method uses the polarization information inherent in the atmosphere to accurately measure solar position. This approach is characterized by simple detection, high accuracy, and wide application range. The optical acquisition system is composed of three miniature large-field camera modules and polarizers, which enables a more compact structure, smaller size, and lesser height. Based on this principle, the solar position solution algorithm was simulated and then verified in various weather environments using the optical acquisition system built as part of this study. Solar position was detected at different moments on the same day in clear weather, and the accuracy of the measured solar altitude and azimuth angles was 0.024° and 0.03°, respectively. The accuracy of the measured solar altitude and azimuth angles was 0.08° and 0.05°, respectively, when the sun was shielded by high-rise buildings and 0.3° and 0.1° when the sun was shielded by branches and tree leaves. Aerosol concentrations exceeding a certain amount destroyed the Rayleigh distribution pattern of polarized light, thus affecting solar position detection accuracy. It is concluded that this novel detection method can not only meet the needs of polarized light navigation for solar position, but also provide a new exploration idea for enthusiasts who are eager to explore the mysteries of the universe.

RESUMO

Prenatal stress has been extensively documented as a contributing factor to adverse cardiac development and function in fetuses and infants. The release of glucocorticoids (GCs), identified as a significant stressor, may be a potential factor inducing cardiac hypertrophy. However, the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Herein, we discovered that corticosterone (CORT) overload induced cardiac hypertrophy in embryonic chicks and fetal mice in vivo, as well as enlarged cardiomyocytes in vitro. The impaired mitochondria dynamics were observed in CORT-exposed cardiomyocytes, accompanied by dysfunction in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. This phenomenon was found to be linked to decreased mitochondrial fusion protein mitofusin 2 (MFN2). Subsequently, we found that CORT facilitated the ubiquitin-proteasome-system-dependent degradation of MFN2 with an enhanced binding of appoptosin to MFN2, serving as the underlying cause. Collectively, our findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms by which exposure to stress hormones induces cardiac hypertrophy in fetuses.

RESUMO

Compared to the most commonly used on-chip direct absorption spectroscopy (DAS) gas detection technique, the second harmonic (2f) based on-chip wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS) proposed by our group has the faculty to suppress noise and improve performance, but the accuracy of 2f WMS is easily affected by optical power variation. A mid-infrared auto-correction on-chip gas sensor based on 2f/1f WMS was proposed for decreasing the influence of the variation of optical power. The limit of detection of methane (CH4) obtained by a chalcogenide waveguide with a length of 10 mm is 0.031%. Compared with the 2f WMS, the maximum relative concentration error of the auto-correction on-chip gas sensor was decreased by ∼5.6 times. The measurement error is ≤2% in a temperature variation range of 30°C. This auto-correction sensor without a complicated manual calibration is helpful to the high accuracy measurement for on-chip integrated gas sensing.

RESUMO

Image fusion is the generation of an informative image that contains complementary information from the original sensor images, such as texture details and attentional targets. Existing methods have designed a variety of feature extraction algorithms and fusion strategies to achieve image fusion. However, these methods ignore the extraction of common features in the original multi-source images. The point of view proposed in this paper is that image fusion is to retain, as much as possible, the useful shared features and complementary differential features of the original multi-source images. Shared and differential learning methods for infrared and visible light image fusion are proposed. An encoder with shared weights is used to extract shared common features contained in infrared and visible light images, and the other two encoder blocks are used to extract differential features of infrared images and visible light images, respectively. Effective learning of shared and differential features is achieved through weight sharing and loss functions. Then, the fusion of shared features and differential features is achieved via a weighted fusion strategy based on an entropy-weighted attention mechanism. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model with its algorithm. Compared with the-state-of-the-art methods, the significant advantage of the proposed method is that it retains the structural information of the original image and has better fusion accuracy and visual perception effect.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study used a bidirectional 2-sample Mendelian randomization study to investigate the potential causal links between mtDNA copy number and cardiometabolic disease (obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, type 2 diabetes [T2DM], coronary artery disease [CAD], stroke, ischemic stroke, and heart failure). METHODS: Genetic associations with mtDNA copy number were obtained from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics from the UK biobank (n = 395,718) and cardio-metabolic disease were from largest available GWAS summary statistics. Inverse variance weighting (IVW) was conducted, with weighted median, MR-Egger, and MR-PRESSO as sensitivity analyses. We repeated this in the opposite direction using instruments for cardio-metabolic disease. RESULTS: Genetically predicted mtDNA copy number was not associated with risk of obesity (P = 0.148), hypertension (P = 0.515), dyslipidemia (P = 0.684), T2DM (P = 0.631), CAD (P = 0.199), stroke (P = 0.314), ischemic stroke (P = 0.633), and heart failure (P = 0.708). Regarding the reverse directions, we only found that genetically predicted dyslipidemia was associated with decreased levels of mtDNA copy number in the IVW analysis (ß= - 0.060, 95% CI - 0.044 to - 0.076; P = 2.416e-14) and there was suggestive of evidence for a potential causal association between CAD and mtDNA copy number (ß= - 0.021, 95% CI - 0.003 to - 0.039; P = 0.025). Sensitivity and replication analyses showed the stable findings. CONCLUSIONS: Findings of this Mendelian randomization study did not support a causal effect of mtDNA copy number in the development of cardiometabolic disease, but found dyslipidemia and CAD can lead to reduced mtDNA copy number. These findings have implications for mtDNA copy number as a biomarker of dyslipidemia and CAD in clinical practice.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the predictive value of cervical Hounsfiled Unit (HU) values for postoperative titanium mesh cage (TMC) subsidence. METHODS: Clinical data of patients who underwent ACCF surgery for degenerative cervical myelopathy between January 2016 and August 2018 were analyzed. Among the 126 patients included, 74 were male and 52 were female, with a mean age of 61.0 ± 9.9 years. The mean follow-up was 37.1 ± 11.2 months. Preoperative vertebral HU values were measured and the degree of TMC subsidence during follow-up was assessed. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of subsidence: the subsidence group and the control group. Vertebral HU values were compared between the two groups, and correlation analysis was performed between HU values and TMC subsidence values. In addition, the predictive value and threshold of HU were analyzed by using ROC. RESULTS: There were 22 patients (14 males and 8 females) who developed TMC subsidence (subsidence group), while 104 patients (60 males and 44 females) did not develop TMC subsidence (control group) during follow-up. Comparative analysis of demographic characteristics between the two groups showed no significant differences in gender, age, BMI, diagnosis, surgical levels, and follow-up duration (all P values > 0.05). There was a significant difference in mean HU between the subsidence group (287.6 ± 49.6) and the control group (342.4 ± 61.4) (t = -3.92, P < 0.01). In the subsidence group, there was a significant correlation between subsidence values and HU values (r = -0.52, P = 0.01), whereas no such correlation was observed in the control group (r = - 0.07, P = 0.51). ROC analysis indicated that vertebral HU values could potentially be used to predict subsidence after ACCF, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.77 (95% CI 0.66-0.87; P < 0.01). The optimal HU threshold was found to be 298, with a sensitivity of 76.9% and specificity of 68.2%. CONCLUSION: Preoperative vertebral HU values were associated with postoperative TMC subsidence. Vertebral HU may be a valuable predictor of postoperative subsidence.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To construct machine learning models based on radiomics features combing conventional transrectal ultrasound (B-mode) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to improve prostate cancer (PCa) detection in peripheral zone (PZ). METHODS: A prospective study of 166 men (72 benign, 94 malignant lesions) with targeted biopsy-confirmed pathology who underwent B-mode and CEUS examinations was performed. Risk factors, including age, serum total prostate-specific antigen (tPSA), free PSA (fPSA), f/t PSA, prostate volume and prostate-specific antigen density (PSAD), were collected. Time-intensity curves were obtained using SonoLiver software for all lesions in regions of interest. Four parameters were collected as risk factors: the maximum intensity (IMAX), rise time (RT), time to peak (TTP), and mean transit time (MTT). Radiomics features were extracted from the target lesions from B-mode and CEUS imaging. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to construct the model. RESULTS: A total of 3306 features were extracted from seven categories. Finally, 32 features were screened out from radiomics models. Five models were developed to predict PCa: the B-mode radiomics model (B model), CEUS radiomics model (CEUS model), B-CEUS combined radiomics model (B-CEUS model), risk factors model, and risk factors-radiomics combined model (combined model). Age, PSAD, tPSA, and RT were significant independent predictors in discriminating benign and malignant PZ lesions (P < 0.05). The risk factors model combing these four predictors showed better discrimination in the validation cohort (area under the curve [AUC], 0.84) than the radiomics images (AUC, 0.79 on B model; AUC, 0.78 on CEUS model; AUC, 0.83 on B-CEUS model), and the combined model (AUC: 0.89) achieved the greatest predictive efficacy. CONCLUSION: The prediction model including B-mode and CEUS radiomics signatures and risk factors represents a promising diagnostic tool for PCa detection in PZ, which may contribute to clinical decision-making.

RESUMO

In this work, we designed and synthesized two similar π-conjugated molecules, N-alkyl (DPP-R) and N-aryl (DPP-B), to comparatively explore the S⋯π interactions using a scanning tunneling microscopy-based break junction (STM-BJ) technique. The conductance results of the STM-BJ experiments indicated that DPP-R has a 66% greater conductance (G) than DPP-B. Combined with molecular simulations, it was demonstrated that the presence of S⋯π interactions led to a certain degree of orbital overlap of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), and created a favorable channel for electron transport in the DPP-B junction.
